Job description

The Optical Network Development Engineer will join the Core Networking team within AWS Infrastructure Services, focusing on designing, building, deploying, and scaling Amazon's networks across global data centers. This role involves collaborating with a diverse team of engineers and specialists to ensure the stability and sustainability of next-generation networks. The engineer will work on high-quality network operations, automation, and optimization while addressing complex challenges in a fast-paced environment. The position emphasizes the importance of delivering efficient and reliable solutions that meet customer needs.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience with major internet routing protocols
  • 4+ years of experience working in a Linux/Unix environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience in large-scale networking environments
  • Experience with programming/scripting languages such as Python, Java, Perl, PHP, Ruby, Bash, or Shell
  • 1+ years of automation scripting experience using Python, Bash, Shell, or Perl
  • Experience with network hardware including copper and optical fiber cabling, switches, and routers
  • Experience in operations of highly available and scalable internet systems with a large customer base

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality network and systems operations, deployments, and scaling.
  • Collaborate with vendors to evaluate new hardware and software features.
  • Automate optical test plans and qualify optical modules.
  • Work with the network operations team to identify operational issues and improve quality.
  • Design and implement processes that enhance operational excellence and business impact.
