Job description

The Senior Mechanical Engineer at AWS will be part of a global data center engineering team focused on designing and innovating liquid cooling products and infrastructure. This role emphasizes collaboration with various teams, including Product Design and Operations, to enhance the reliability and efficiency of data center systems. The engineer will drive continuous improvements and communicate technical direction to senior management. This position is available in Seattle, Columbus, or Herndon.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.
  • 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission critical facilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment.
  • Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.

Responsibilities

  • Define and design liquid cooling equipment and related infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with internal and external ecosystem partners to design and develop new data center product solutions.
  • Support field engineering and data center operation teams for performing root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Leverage economy of scale through standardization and modularization of data center products.
  • Maintain and develop technical design procedures associated with piping and pipe support analysis activities.
  • Provide technical subject matter expertise to peers, senior management and partner teams.
  • Develop business justification and narratives to promote new concepts and ideas.
  • Lead key initiatives for the organization while demonstrating ownership.
  • Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate mechanical and associated sub components.
  • Provide product design support to other team members.
  • Write functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
  • Travel domestically and internationally for up to 25% of the year.
