The Systems Engineer role focuses on managing Windows and Linux systems to build highly-available infrastructure at scale. The team is part of AWS Infrastructure Services, responsible for the design and operation of global infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in system administration, automation, and networking. This position requires collaboration with global teams to solve complex technical challenges and improve system reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related field or relevant work experience
  • 4+ years of site reliability engineering (SRE), systems engineering, systems administration, DevOps, security administration, or network administration experience
  • 2+ years of experience building scripts, tooling, and automation for large-scale computing environments
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Java, Perl, PHP, Ruby, Bash, or Shell
  • Experience working in a 24/7 production environment
  • Experience with service-oriented architecture and web services

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, manage, and support large-scale Windows and Linux environments, including virtualization platforms and networking components
  • Create and maintain automation solutions using PowerShell, Python, or Bash, focusing on scalable deployment processes and infrastructure management
  • Work with AWS or similar cloud platforms to support hybrid infrastructure environments
  • Architect and implement secure, scalable solutions while considering system interdependencies and limitations
  • Analyze complex technical issues and develop effective solutions through root cause analysis
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, develop training materials, and support team knowledge sharing
  • Work effectively with global teams, provide technical consultation, and support cross-functional projects
  • Identify security risks, develop mitigation plans, and participate in compliance efforts
  • Be available for 24/7 on-call rotation and up to 20% travel

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
