Job description

The Systems Development Engineer will collaborate with OEMs to develop and implement controls, electrical, and hardware solutions for robotics and material handling systems. This role involves defining requirements and standards for various work cells and ensuring effective integration across multiple vendors. The position requires balancing controls and software integration while providing commissioning support to Operations Engineering Teams. The team focuses on supporting retrofit designs and developing solutions for future projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, engineering technology, or equivalent, or 2+ years of industrial controls and automation experience
  • 2+ years of engineering experience
  • Experience designing or implementing integrated automation solutions such as material handling systems or high-speed packaging lines
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience using one or more CAD technologies such as AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, SolidWorks, CREO, BIM360, SketchUp, or KeyShot
  • 2+ years of PLC programming experience, or Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, automation engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience with advanced automation controls systems
  • Experience as an industrial engineer, operations engineer, manufacturing engineer, or project engineer in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience building or operating highly available, distributed systems for data extraction and processing
  • Experience with MHE systems using proprietary or standardized controls code libraries

Responsibilities

  • Prepare specifications and technical details to define performance on equipment, materials, and services
  • Perform PLC and IPC control level issues and performance diagnosis using Codeysys, Python, and Studio 5000 software
  • Define and measure system performance KPIs, leveraging industry standard PackML
  • Follow and enforce industrial network security requirements
  • Develop ad-hoc PLC ladder and structured text code changes following change management processes
  • Provide detailed analysis and testing of existing and new engineering solutions and components
  • Collaborate with IT, FC Software, Vendors, and Operations Engineering to support new MHE systems deployments
  • Undertake industrial engineering design on existing and new material handling systems across the global network
  • Provide technical documentation such as flow diagrams, conveyor and equipment layouts, installation details, and integration specifications
  • Support commissioning of new automation elements and designs
  • Participate in local or global network level control projects and initiatives
  • Conduct post go-audits to determine performance standards with fulfillment center stakeholders
  • Document control system and equipment configuration changes and maintain updated documentation
