Job description

The Data Center Mechanical Engineer role at Google focuses on the design and implementation of mechanical systems for data centers. The position is part of the Data Center Engineering team, which aims to innovate and optimize the physical design of data centers. The engineer will work on complex projects, ensuring compliance with codes and standards while collaborating with various teams. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in mission critical facility design and construction environments.
  • 10 years of experience in design, construction and commissioning of HVAC and mechanical distribution systems, including air and water side systems.
  • Experience in mechanical infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to data center services and operations teams, defining mechanical system design requirements for multiple data center projects from inception to completion.
  • Develop, implement, and manage the mechanical designs at the site level, starting from the basis of design through to the issuance of construction documents for new builds, infrastructure upgrades, and renovations.
  • Collaborate with the Engineer of Record (EOR) to respond to site-specific engineering Requests for Information (RFI) and ensure alignment between Google's requirements and the overall design.
  • Work with the core engineering team to provide site-specific requirements during the development of the Basis of Design (BOD) and coordinate system-level schematics with the EOR.
  • Own and manage site-level power system issues during project execution, collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve issues.
