Job description

The Principal Engineer role in the AWS Hardware Engineering team focuses on creating innovative compute and storage server designs that are critical to the success of AWS. This position involves establishing technical standards and driving the overall technical architecture and engineering practices. The team works on complex problems, ensuring high quality and scalable systems that meet business needs. Candidates will thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative culture that encourages risk-taking and skill development.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in server technologies, including electrical, mechanical, thermal, and software.
  • 8+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design of new and current systems.
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Materials Science or a related field.
  • Experience developing and operating hardware at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Establish technical standards and drive Amazon's overall technical architecture.
  • Build high quality, architecturally sound systems aligned with business needs.
  • Manage the hardware design life cycle and ensure server hardware is healthy and manageable.
  • Produce both detailed technical work and high-level architectural designs.
