Job description

The Data Center Electrical Engineer Metro Lead at Google is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of electrical systems within data centers. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with safety and efficiency standards. The engineer will also mentor junior team members and drive improvements in electrical infrastructure. The position requires a combination of technical expertise and leadership skills to optimize data center operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with data center or mission-critical facilities, including design construction environments and their electrical infrastructure.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time as required.
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or other related fields is preferred.
  • Professional engineering license is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert technical support to data center services and operations teams, defining electrical system design requirements for multiple data center projects from inception to completion.
  • Develop, implement, and manage the electrical designs at the site level, starting from the basis of design through to the issuance of construction documents for new builds, infrastructure upgrades, and renovations.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Engineer of Record (EOR) to respond to site-specific engineering requests for information (RFI) and ensure alignment between Google's requirements and the overall design.
  • Work closely with the core engineering team to provide site-specific requirements during the development of the basis of design (BOD) and coordinate system-level schematics with the EOR.
  • Own and manage site-level power system issues during project execution, collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve issues effectively.
