Job description

The role is for a senior engineer within the Foundry Agents organization at Microsoft, focusing on building and evolving large-scale, cloud-native systems for intelligent agents and generative AI. The team is responsible for the entire agent lifecycle, including deployment, fine-tuning, and observability. The engineer will work at the intersection of distributed systems, AI infrastructure, and developer platforms, making architectural decisions that ensure high performance, reliability, and security. This position requires strong technical judgment and the ability to translate customer and research needs into platform capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Build and scale foundational services that power secure agent deployment and execution.
  • Design and evolve distributed runtimes and cloud services to run agents securely at enterprise scale.
  • Improve iteration loops for researchers, engineers, and developers through better tooling and automation.
  • Debug and optimize complex interactions across models, data, hardware, and infrastructure.
  • Drive technical direction across the full software development lifecycle.
  • Champion operational excellence and secure-by-design practices.
  • Collaborate closely with partner teams across CoreAI and Azure.

Benefits

  • Employees at Microsoft are often offered comprehensive, “world-class” benefits—including health and mental-wellness programs, competitive pay with bonuses and stock awards, and retirement/savings options. Time-off and flexibility are common, with generous vacation and holidays, parental and caregiver leave, and flexible work schedules, alongside learning support, employee resource groups, product discounts, and matching-gifts/volunteering programs. Specific benefits can vary by region.
