Job description

As a Systems Modeling Electrical Engineer at AWS, you will bridge the gap between physical electrical infrastructure and virtual simulation. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining high-fidelity models of data center power systems to optimize performance and predict failures. The role involves collaboration with a diverse team of engineers and specialists to ensure safety and security standards are met. You will also engage in innovative projects at hyper-scale, contributing to the continuous improvement of AWS infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
  • 6+ years of experience in data center design, construction, or operations with a focus on power system studies and analysis.
  • Proficiency in PSCAD, PSS®E, and familiarity with other tools such as ETAP and SKM.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or C++ for data analysis and automation.
  • Knowledge of IEC and IEEE standards related to power system studies.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain high-fidelity system models of data center electrical systems.
  • Develop and execute power system simulations to predict fault behavior and load flow.
  • Automate simulation workflows and 'what-if' scenario testing using scripting tools.
  • Lead pre-deployment validation of new electrical products and systems.
  • Design and execute Hardware-in-the-Loop lab testing for datacenter electrical loading scenarios.
  • Define and own Design Verification Plans and test procedures for prototype electrical hardware.
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis on design failures and produce validation reports.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to validate integrated system performance.
  • Develop institutional validation frameworks for datacenter electrical programs.
  • Ensure deployed electrical systems are validated against realistic fault scenarios.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
