JobsLab Engineer II, Industrial Robotics Group
Job description
Amazon Industrial Robotics is looking for skilled CNC Programmers to support the development of advanced robotics systems. This role involves working closely with research scientists and engineers to machine precision components for next-generation robotic systems. The ideal candidate will have a passion for precision manufacturing and hands-on fabrication. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge technology in a dynamic and innovative environment.
Requirements
- Associate's degree or higher in Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on CNC programming experience, including operating and setting up CNC mills and lathes (2-axis through 5-axis).
- Proficiency in CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, NX CAM, EdgeCam, or equivalent) for toolpath generation and CNC programming.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, NX, or equivalent CAD software for reading and interpreting 3D models and engineering drawings.
- Solid understanding of machining principles, GD&T, and shop safety practices.
- Experience programming and operating DMG machines with Siemens controls.
- Familiarity with multi-axis (4- or 5-axis) machining strategies and fixturing.
- Background in mechanical fabrication or prototyping environments.
- Experience with inventory management systems and procurement processes.
- Knowledge of materials science as it relates to metal fabrication, including aluminum, steel, and titanium.
Responsibilities
- Program, set up, operate, and maintain 5-axis CNC mills and 5-axis mill-turn machining centers to produce precision components for prototyping and production.
- Develop and optimize CNC programs using CAM software, ensuring efficient toolpaths, proper feeds and speeds, and high-quality surface finishes.
- Troubleshoot machining issues and perform routine maintenance and calibration on CNC equipment.
- Design and fabricate custom fixtures, jigs, and workholding devices to support production and assembly processes.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to assess part designs for manufacturability and recommend design improvements.
- Support machining operations and prepare materials for prototyping and production runs.
- Source and procure cutting tools, raw metals, and consumables; manage tooling inventory and maintain stock levels of hardware and fabrication supplies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment in compliance with machining safety standards.
- Generate process documentation, work instructions, CNC programs, and equipment maintenance logs.
Benefits
- Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
