JobsOptical Sensing HW - Algorithm and Modeling Engineer
Job description
The optical sensing team at Apple is seeking a skilled individual to design, develop, and launch advanced optical-sensing technologies for various products, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. This role focuses on developing models and algorithms to understand complex interactions between optical systems. The candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate these algorithms into state-of-the-art sensing solutions. Strong numerical simulation skills and a solid understanding of optics are essential for success in this position.
Requirements
- BS degree and a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience
- MS or PhD in Optics, Physics, Math, or Electrical Engineering
- Strong mathematical and numerical simulation skills, including programming in MATLAB, Python, or similar
- Experience with optical simulation and characterization of optical sensors
- Knowledge of display technology and/or Electrical Engineering
- Experience developing calibration algorithms for optical systems
- Experience with optical lab equipment such as spectrometers, detectors, and oscilloscopes
- Excellent documentation skills
Responsibilities
- Develop numerical algorithms to enable the integration of optical sensors into products
- Characterize complex optical and electrical interactions
- Develop models to describe the behavior of optical systems
- Collaborate with Optical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, and Hardware Test Engineering teams
- Integrate algorithms into the calibration and operation of sensing solutions
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
