JobsMachine Learning Engineer, Platform Architecture
Job description
The role is part of Apple's Platform Architecture group, focusing on integrating hardware and software systems. You will collaborate with engineers to design and optimize system-on-a-chip architecture for machine learning applications. The team works at the intersection of machine learning and Apple silicon architecture, developing prototypes and performance models. Your insights will help inform architecture decisions and improve workload efficiency on SoCs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- Ability to program in C/C++ and/or Python.
- Knowledge of computer architecture fundamentals.
- Domain knowledge in at least one hardware IP such as ML HW accelerators or processing units.
- MS or PhD in EE/CE/CS or related field, or 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience with ML frameworks like PyTorch.
- Experience in optimizing and deploying ML models in production environments.
- Experience in creating SoC or IP performance models or simulations.
- Understanding of compiler frameworks and technologies.
Responsibilities
- Explore different ways of mapping ML workloads to Apple silicon.
- Develop performance models and simulations to inform architecture decisions.
- Communicate insights to software and algorithm teams.
- Prototype algorithms on CPU, GPU, or Neural Engine and analyze performance metrics.
- Create high-level complexity models for machine learning applications.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
