Job description

The role is part of Apple's Data Center Networking team, which is responsible for building and operationalizing innovative products and solutions for hyper-scale network infrastructure. The team focuses on delivering a network that meets Apple's scale, reliability, and security goals. Candidates should have a strong passion for building sophisticated large-scale systems and possess broad experience in distributed systems architecture and networking. Requirements

  • Expert-level routing and switching mastery
  • In-depth understanding of switching ASICs from multiple providers
  • Understanding of multi-vendor and open source network operating system architecture and design
  • Sophisticated knowledge of TCP/IP, routing protocols, and large scale network features
  • Familiarity with network performance tuning and optimization
  • Deep technical background in network-layer security mechanisms
  • Cloud-scale networking background
  • Experience deploying and scaling overlay networking technologies such as VXLAN, GRE, and IPSec
  • Familiarity with data center structured cabling, fiber plant, power, and cooling
  • 10+ years experience in building, securing, and deploying large scale data center network environments
  • Engineering leadership experience
  • Experience with tooling development and software development lifecycle
  • Proficiency in one or more software languages such as Swift, Golang, or Python
  • Extensive understanding of public and private cloud networking architecture and compute virtualization technologies
  • Practical knowledge of high-performance compute and artificial intelligence networking
  • Experience with configuration management platforms such as Puppet, Ansible, Salt, or Chef

Responsibilities

  • Build and operationalize innovative products and solutions for hyper-scale network infrastructure
  • Collaborate with other infrastructure organizations to influence and operate Apple's network infrastructure
  • Drive ideas from inception to implementation as a self-starter and self-motivated individual
  • Articulate concepts, designs, and decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ensure the network meets Apple's scale, reliability, and security goals
