Job description

The GPU Top Level Physical Design engineer will be part of the Silicon Technologies group, focusing on designing and manufacturing high-performance, power-efficient GPUs. This role combines strategic engineering with hands-on technical work, requiring collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive physical design aspects early in the design cycle. The engineer will develop methodologies and guidelines to ensure best-in-class GPU design while managing large chip integration. The position demands a strong understanding of physical design and the ability to solve complex problems in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field plus 10 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with ASIC integration including floorplanning, clock and power distribution, and I/O planning
  • Proficiency with floorplanning tools and P&R flows, specifically Cadence or Synopsys
  • Experience with hierarchical design approaches and physical convergence
  • Familiarity with integrating IP from internal and external vendors
  • Knowledge of physical design topics including multiple voltage and clock domains and ESD solutions
  • Experience with large subsystem designs exceeding 20 million gates and frequencies over 1GHz
  • Understanding of process-related design issues such as Design for Yield and Manufacturability

Responsibilities

  • Implement complete chip design from netlist to tapeout
  • Collaborate with the front-end team to understand RTL and drive physical aspects early in the design cycle
  • Develop PD guidelines and checklists to drive execution and supervise progress
  • Act as the focal point for place and route integration at the top level
  • Communicate and drive the needs of physical design with cross-functional teams
  • Drive innovation with the physical design team to develop best-known methods for GPU design

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life.
