Job description

The Motion Sensing Hardware Team at Apple focuses on integrating MEMS and magnetic sensing technologies to enhance user interaction across products. As a member of this team, you will be responsible for the end-to-end architecture of motion sensing systems, ensuring high-performance capabilities from concept to manufacturing. The role emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and the creation of patents to drive product design. You will work on state-of-the-art sensors and define comprehensive validation plans to ensure product excellence.

Requirements

  • BS degree with a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Practical understanding of motion sensors including magnetic, inertial, and pressure types.
  • Experience in architecture and system-level design of sensing systems.
  • PhD with 5+ years of hands-on experience in shipping motion sensor products.
  • Experience in architecture, design, characterization, and validation of MEMS sensing systems.
  • Deep understanding of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, transducer physics, and system engineering principles.
  • Proficiency in modeling, simulation, and analysis tools such as ANSYS Maxwell, COMSOL, MATLAB, and Python.
  • Experience in sensor placement optimization through modeling within product-level constraints.
  • Strong fundamentals in signal processing, probability, and statistics.
  • Experience defining and executing validation plans from characterization through production readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end sensing system architecture from transducer physics through signal chain and algorithm.
  • Drive the feature roadmap and define feature requirements for motion sensing capabilities.
  • Build and validate quantitative end-to-end models capturing the full signal chain.
  • Own sensor integration into the product system and optimize sensor placement.
  • Define comprehensive validation plans and execute them rigorously.
  • Generate high-quality reports to communicate results, risks, and recommendations to leadership.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure sensor placement meets performance, mechanical, and manufacturing constraints.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
