JobsGPU Physical Design Clocking Engineer
Job description
As a GPU Clocking engineer in the Silicon Technologies group, you will play a crucial role in designing and manufacturing high-performance, power-efficient processors and system-on-chip (SoC) solutions. This position requires a blend of strategic engineering and hands-on technical work, focusing on implementing complete chip design from netlist to tapeout. You will collaborate with front-end teams to understand chip architecture and drive clocking aspects early in the design cycle. Your expertise will help streamline physical design work and ensure that Apple products can efficiently handle complex tasks.
Requirements
- BS degree with 10 years of relevant experience.
- Experience with ASIC integration including floorplanning, clock and power distribution, global signal planning, and I/O planning.
- Proficiency with floorplanning tools, P&R flows, and global timing verification flows.
- Experience with hierarchical design approaches, top-down design, budgeting, timing, and physical convergence.
- Ability to plan and analyze high-speed clock distribution networks.
- Familiarity with various clock distribution strategies including balanced trees, mesh, and forwarded clocks.
- Experience with physical design topics such as multiple voltage and clock domains, ESD solutions, and mixed signal block integration.
- Proven track record in solving complex physical design problems.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with front-end teams to understand chip architecture and drive clocking aspects.
- Drive best-in-class clocking construction and solutions for performance, power, and area.
- Develop clocking methodologies and best known methods to streamline physical design work.
- Communicate and drive the needs of physical design and clocking with multi-functional teams.
- Plan and craft test structures to evaluate clocking functionality and performance post-silicon.
- Integrate IP from both internal and external vendors and specify IP requirements in the physical domain.
- Engage with test teams pre/post-silicon to debug and analyze clocking issues.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
