Job description

As a GPU Clocking engineer in the Silicon Technologies group, you will play a crucial role in designing and manufacturing high-performance processors and system-on-chip (SoC) solutions. Your focus will be on clocking aspects of chip design, ensuring optimal performance, power efficiency, and area. You will collaborate with front-end teams to drive clocking methodologies and streamline physical design work. This position requires a blend of strategic engineering and hands-on technical work, contributing to the development of technology that powers Apple devices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with ASIC integration including floorplanning, clock and power distribution, global signal planning, and I/O planning.
  • Proficiency with floorplanning tools, place and route flows, and global timing verification flows.
  • Experience with hierarchical design approaches and physical convergence.
  • Ability to analyze high-speed clock distribution networks and various clock distribution strategies.
  • Experience with physical design topics including multiple voltage and clock domains and mixed signal block integration.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with front-end teams to understand chip architecture and drive clocking aspects early in the design cycle.
  • Drive best-in-class clocking construction and solutions for performance, power, and area.
  • Develop guidelines and checklists to streamline physical design work.
  • Communicate and drive the needs of physical design and clocking with multi-functional teams.
  • Plan and craft test structures to evaluate clocking functionality and performance post-silicon.
  • Integrate IP from both internal and external vendors and specify IP requirements in the physical domain.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
