Job description

The Mac System Architecture team at Apple is seeking a power systems architect to lead and influence new product designs. This role involves a multi-disciplinary approach to power delivery design for computer systems, focusing on enhancing performance, size, power, thermal, and cost goals. The team values collaboration and creativity, aiming to surprise and delight customers with innovative products. The architect will work closely with various engineering teams to establish product definitions and requirements.

Requirements

  • MS or BS in Electrical Engineering or a similar discipline.
  • A minimum of 10+ years of relevant computer systems architecture experience, specializing in power electronics and power delivery topologies.
  • Core competence and subject matter expertise in personal computing product design focusing on power delivery.
  • Strong technical breadth across several computer subsystem technologies, including CPU, GPU, storage, memory, display, power, and thermal management.
  • Experience with system integration involving power management ICs and power delivery topologies.
  • Solid understanding of schematics, PCB layout and designs, along with experience in bring-up, system debug, and hands-on lab environments.
  • Ability to comprehend the roles of hardware, firmware, and software layers and their interactions in system design.
  • Strong analytic, verbal, written, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide architectural guidance and leadership to cross-functional engineering teams to establish new product definitions and requirements.
  • Negotiate top-level product goals among architects, system engineers, technical leads, and external vendors.
  • Determine product system integration feasibility by collaborating with mechanical, physical, thermal, and electrical engineering stakeholders.
  • Author system architecture specifications and block diagrams, conducting reviews with product teams.
  • Collaborate with Performance Architects to define, model, and drive improvements in performance, power efficiency, and cost.
  • Analyze, guide, and support thermal management solutions and trade-offs.
  • Anticipate future SoC requirements and negotiate with internal SoC teams to align with system product goals.
  • Explore and champion new product-level features and workflows by being innovative and curious.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
