The AIML Information Intelligence team is focused on creating innovative technology in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing. This role involves large scale machine learning and deep learning to enhance query understanding and ranking for search functionalities across various Apple products. The team is dedicated to developing domain-specific Large Language Models and transferring cutting-edge research into production-ready technologies. Candidates will have the opportunity to shape future Apple products through their expertise in applied machine learning and NLP.

• PhD, MS or equivalent experience in machine learning, deep learning, information retrieval, natural language processing or data mining.
• Experience in prompt engineering, fine-tuning, evaluating, and developing data collection/annotation/management tooling for LLMs.
• Proficiency in one of the following languages: Python, Go, Java, C++.
• Excellent data analytical skills.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team player.
• PhD preferred.

• Analyze search ranking and relevance requirements, issues, and opportunities.
• Develop, fine-tune, and evaluate domain-specific Large Language Models for various tasks and applications in Apple's AI powered products.
• Conduct applied research to transfer pioneering research in generative AI to production-ready technologies.
• Understand product requirements and translate them into modeling and engineering tasks.
• Build machine learned models for search relevance, ranking, and query understanding problems.
• Integrate search functions into Apple products such as Siri, Spotlight, Safari, Messages, and Lookup.
• Build end-to-end production systems including query understanding and ranking to power search.
• Apply Spark, Hadoop MapReduce, Hive, and Impala to perform distributed data processing.
