Job description

The Physical Design Engineer will be part of the Digital Design Engineering group, focusing on transforming innovative ideas into reality. This role involves working closely with foundation IP developers on silicon validation, playing a crucial part in the processor design effort. The engineer will collaborate with a team to ensure the successful delivery of products to market. This position requires a strong understanding of the RTL to GDSII flow and various physical design processes.

Requirements

  • BS degree and a minimum of 2 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Proven experience and strong understanding of the RTL to GDSII flow and related concepts.
  • Familiarity with the development of blocks/partitions for silicon validation of foundation IPs.
  • Knowledge of ASIC integration flows, including power distribution and global signal planning.
  • Experience with tapeout of partitions and verification flows like LEQ, IR/EM, and timing closure.
  • Hands-on experience with ECO implementation for functional and timing closure.
  • Familiarity with DFT insertion and multi-mode timing constraints.
  • Strong scripting skills using Perl/Tcl.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive library EDA view validation by taking a P&R block through RTL to GDS steps.
  • Conduct physical synthesis, placement, CTS, routing, timing optimization, leakage recovery, and signoff.
  • Execute PT/spice correlation, signal and power EM analysis, IR analysis, and PDV.
  • Architect and compose blocks consisting of library cells for complete silicon validation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new insights into the design process.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
