Job description

The calibration & instrumentation engineer will be part of the camera team at Apple, focusing on defining and developing calibration and test strategies for new camera components. This role involves close collaboration with Optical Sensor & Camera Design groups to ensure the success of Apple products. The engineer will be responsible for the specification, design, prototyping, validation, and optimization of test metrology and algorithms. This position is crucial during the New Product Introduction (NPI) phase to ensure high-quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physics, Optics, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of relevant proven experience in the field.
  • In-depth knowledge of camera and optical system working principles.
  • Experience with camera and optical sensor calibration techniques and metrology.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to deliver technical and executive-level presentations.
  • Programming experience in C, C++, Objective-C, or Python.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physics, Optics, or a related technical field is preferred.
  • Experience with driving AI/ML projects.
  • Experience with fabrication and assembly of camera and optical sensors.
  • Experience with computer vision algorithms and image processing.
  • Experience with plotting, processing, and mining data.
  • Experience with simulation workflows and synthetic dataset generation.
  • A system engineering approach to quickly familiarize with sophisticated processes.

Responsibilities

  • Define and develop calibration and test strategies for new camera components.
  • Specify, design, prototype, validate, and optimize test metrology and algorithms for camera testing.
  • Collaborate closely with Optical Sensor & Camera Design groups.
  • Ensure the success of current and future Apple products during the New Product Introduction phase.
  • Break down and prioritize sophisticated tasks effectively.
