Job description

As a Sr. Sensors Engineer at Amazon Lab126, you will design and integrate sensors into innovative consumer electronics. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to address design and manufacturing challenges while ensuring technology readiness. This role requires a strong technical background and the ability to mentor junior engineers. You will also contribute to product specifications and participate in the technology roadmap creation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 7+ years of experience as a hardware/sensor engineer on consumer electronics product development
  • Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
  • Experience collaborating with the ECAD/physical board designer and able to review PCB designs with Allegro, CAM350, or equivalent
  • Breadth and depth in at least two sensor fields such as Optical, Inertial, Chemical, Biological, Acoustic
  • Experience with quantitative, statistical data analysis software such as JMP, Matlab, Python, or LabView
  • Experience with schematic capture with tool sets such as OrCAD
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent is preferred
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
  • Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Experience in technical document writing using Visio, Word, Excel, or PowerPoint
  • Experience with the project management of technical projects
  • Manufacturing site support experience

Responsibilities

  • Design sensors and sensing features into world-class devices and cutting-edge prototypes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and stakeholders across the company.
  • Take ownership to root-cause and resolve critical design and manufacturing issues.
  • Participate in design reviews and address all aspects of technology readiness.
  • Work with contract manufacturers to ensure designs can be built at scale and within budget.
  • Contribute to maintaining and updating team processes and good practices.
  • Provide technical leadership through design reviews and mentoring.
  • Establish robust processes and methodologies to deliver technology to products.
  • Contribute to product requirements and specifications definition.
  • Participate in technology and product roadmap creation.
  • Attend cross-functional program meetings and work with teams on sensor integration and manufacturing readiness.
  • Review hardware designs from partner teams as part of the NPI validation process.
  • Run data analysis and make design trade-off decisions as part of the NPI validation process.
  • Lead root-cause identification efforts for manufacturing issues and report status to leadership.
  • Work with manufacturing teams to optimize build and test processes.
  • Analyze yield and establish test limits.
  • Write design guidelines based on acquired experience and knowledge.
  • Explore new ideas and sensing technologies and contribute to new product exploration and prototyping.
  • Meet with junior engineers to provide guidance and mentorship.
  • Review and update process documentation and methodologies.
