Rivian is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join their Autonomy organization within the Cloud and Data team. This role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining critical data infrastructure to support autonomous vehicle development. The ideal candidate will work at the intersection of data architecture and scalable engineering, contributing to the implementation of reliable and secure data pipelines. Collaboration with engineering and product teams is essential to enhance data platform reliability and performance.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or distributed systems.
- Proven experience designing and operating large-scale data systems using Spark, Databricks, or equivalent tools.
- Strong knowledge of AWS services such as S3, Lambda, EKS, DynamoDB, and IAM.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration.
- Proficiency in Python, Go, and SQL, focusing on writing modular and testable code.
- Deep understanding of streaming and batch data processing paradigms.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead projects without close supervision.
- Familiarity with data governance and access control frameworks.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence through clear technical reasoning.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines to process vehicle telemetry and sensor logs.
- Contribute to the design of distributed data architectures for real-time and offline use cases.
- Own the development and delivery of complex data engineering components and projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable data infrastructure.
- Apply engineering best practices for CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and observability.
- Participate in code reviews and technical discussions to improve system design quality.
- Implement data processing frameworks that support privacy-aware data handling.
- Evaluate and adopt new tools to improve pipeline performance and scalability.
- Tackle ambiguous technical problems by collaborating with stakeholders.
