The role is for a senior hands-on infrastructure engineer within the Cloud Architecture and Engineering team at Goldman Sachs. This team focuses on designing cloud-native solutions and transforming key infrastructure platforms to utilize public cloud services securely. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively to develop and implement cutting-edge cloud computing solutions, contributing to a DevOps culture. Responsibilities include researching, architecting, and building foundational AWS compute and networking platforms used across the firm.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in infrastructure or cloud architecture roles with hands-on production experience building and operating AWS-based platforms.
- Deep expertise in Linux systems architecture, including production operations, performance analysis, and troubleshooting in distributed environments.
- Strong experience designing and operating highly available, scalable infrastructure systems with a solid understanding of networking and distributed systems concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to define and drive adoption of standardized infrastructure patterns or reference architectures across multiple engineering teams.
- Proven experience making and communicating complex architectural decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Design, evolve, and own reference architectures and standardized infrastructure patterns for running Linux-based workloads on AWS.
- Architect and implement scalable, highly available, secure, and cost-effective cloud infrastructure for critical production workloads.
- Serve as a design authority for cloud infrastructure solutions, providing architectural guidance and participating in design reviews.
- Lead the design of automation-first patterns for migrating workloads from on-premises environments to AWS.
- Build and evolve infrastructure solutions that integrate on-premises systems and public cloud services securely.
- Partner closely with application teams and SREs to translate workload characteristics into resilient infrastructure designs.
- Apply systems-level thinking to identify and mitigate risks related to performance, capacity, and availability in distributed environments.
- Provide senior technical leadership through mentorship and hands-on support during complex design efforts.
Benefits
- Employees at Goldman Sachs are often offered comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, life and disability coverage, generous vacation and holidays, and robust wellness resources such as EAP counseling, medical advocacy, on-site/virtual health services, and fitness support. Financial perks typically include retirement savings programs, live financial education, education support, and wealth-creation opportunities through equity awards and select investment programs. Many locations also provide family benefits (childcare resources, parental and family leaves, adoption/surrogacy support) and flexible work options like part-time schedules, job sharing, telecommuting, and alternate hours.
