·FY 2025Job description
The role involves working as a Systems Engineer within the Cloud team at Goldman Sachs, focusing on designing, developing, and managing cloud infrastructure components. The team is responsible for transforming key infrastructure platforms to be cloud-native and enabling the use of public cloud services across the firm. Candidates will contribute to cloud architecture patterns and collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure security, reliability, and compliance. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and be passionate about implementing innovative cloud computing solutions.
Requirements
- 3–8 years of relevant experience in cloud, infrastructure, or platform engineering with a strong emphasis on architecture and design.
- Hands-on familiarity with AWS core services and concepts, including EC2, ECS, VPC, IAM, and foundational networking constructs.
- Solid understanding of Linux-based systems and how applications interact with underlying infrastructure.
- Strong grasp of cloud networking, storage, and security fundamentals, including routing, isolation, and shared services models.
- Experience defining or reviewing system and infrastructure designs in a multi-team or enterprise environment.
- Working knowledge of infrastructure-as-code concepts and tooling, with an emphasis on standards and reuse rather than day-to-day operations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex architectural topics to diverse technical audiences.
- Comfortable operating in agile and DevOps-oriented organizations as an architectural partner rather than a primary operator.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to system design discussions and implementations.
- Understand customer workloads and infrastructure components.
- Build and operate secure, reliable, and highly available AWS-based systems.
- Define and evolve cloud architecture patterns, reference architectures, and design standards for AWS compute, storage, and networking.
- Act as a trusted architectural advisor to application and platform teams, guiding workload design decisions and cloud adoption strategies.
- Partner with engineering, security, and risk stakeholders to ensure cloud architectures meet firm-wide reliability, security, and compliance requirements.
- Review proposed cloud designs and provide architectural guidance on scalability, availability, connectivity, and operational resilience.
- Shape hybrid and cloud networking architectures using AWS services such as VPC, Transit Gateway, and Direct Connect.
- Provide architectural guidance for migrating workloads from on-premises environments to AWS using standardized patterns and approved blueprints.
- Influence infrastructure automation by defining infrastructure-as-code standards, conventions, and reusable constructs.
- Identify systemic architectural risks and gaps and recommend improvements to platform patterns, controls, and governance.
- Contribute to architectural documentation, design guidelines, and best practices to drive consistent cloud adoption across the firm.
- Collaborate with globally distributed engineering teams in a fast-paced, multi-initiative environment.
Benefits
- Employees at Goldman Sachs are often offered comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, life and disability coverage, generous vacation and holidays, and robust wellness resources such as EAP counseling, medical advocacy, on-site/virtual health services, and fitness support. Financial perks typically include retirement savings programs, live financial education, education support, and wealth-creation opportunities through equity awards and select investment programs. Many locations also provide family benefits (childcare resources, parental and family leaves, adoption/surrogacy support) and flexible work options like part-time schedules, job sharing, telecommuting, and alternate hours.
