Job description
The role involves joining Rivian's product development team to lead the production launch of high-voltage power electronics. The engineer will develop and direct comprehensive validation test plans to ensure compliance with various standards. This position is based in Torrance, CA, and requires collaboration with multiple teams to interpret requirements and execute testing. The successful candidate will also manage supplier validation efforts and report on testing outcomes.
Requirements
- B.S. or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proficiency in setting up and executing standard validation tests, including thermal, mechanical, and electrical testing.
- Strong ability to use measurement equipment and analyze large datasets to draw conclusions and identify failure modes.
- Knowledge of power electronics products such as power converters, inverters, and on-board chargers.
- Excellent problem-solving skills for troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Familiarity with automotive industry validation standards.
- Experience using instrumentation like thermocouples, RTDs, and accelerometers.
- Working knowledge of automotive communication protocols such as CAN and LIN.
- Experience with collaboration tools like JIRA and Confluence.
- Ability to communicate technical findings clearly to diverse teams.
Responsibilities
- Plan and develop validation test strategies that align with product design and requirements.
- Collaborate with software and hardware teams to interpret product requirements and develop test cases.
- Define special test equipment capabilities needed for validation.
- Create detailed test procedures that outline specific setup requirements and instructions.
- Design test fixtures for rigorous vibration and environmental testing.
- Lead lab technicians in setting up and executing validation tests.
- Analyze test results and report on the validation status to product development teams.
- Participate in design reviews and influence design for reliability and testability.
- Manage supplier-sourced sub-component validation efforts and ensure defects are addressed.
