The role focuses on thermal design and validation of low-voltage electrical hardware at Rivian, ensuring the reliability and performance of electronic control units in demanding vehicle environments. The team is dedicated to developing high-fidelity thermal strategies that integrate silicon-level performance with vehicle-level requirements. Candidates will lead efforts in optimizing thermal stack-ups and PCB-to-chassis heat pathways, aiming for industry-leading efficiency and reliability. This position requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to drive product excellence and innovation.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Mechanical or Thermal Engineering with 6-8+ years of experience or a PhD with 4-6+ years of relevant industry experience.
- Expert-level proficiency in CFD and thermal analysis tools, including Ansys Icepak, Fluent, Flotherm, and Star-CCM+.
- Experience with chip and IC package-level thermal modeling.
- Proven experience with thermal prototype builds and environmental chamber testing.
- Strong understanding of automotive reliability standards, including AEC-Q stress test qualification.
Responsibilities
- Lead thermal strategy and perform numerical simulations to address complex thermal challenges.
- Develop electronic cooling and packaging solutions for next-generation vehicle architectures.
- Establish simulation-to-test correlation methodologies.
- Build physical mockups and manage thermocouple instrumentation for extensive testing.
- Provide detailed design feedback on thermal stack-ups and cooling layouts.
