Job description

As a member of Rivian's Vehicle Hardware Engineering team, you will play a crucial role in developing innovative products from concept to volume production. The focus will be on injection mold tooling, ensuring optimal designs for mass production while promoting sustainability. You will collaborate with various teams and suppliers to drive best practices and solve complex problems. This position requires a blend of technical expertise and a passion for the outdoors, aligning with Rivian's mission to protect the environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or similar.
  • 1-2+ years of injection mold tooling related experience in all aspects of tooling design, tool manufacturing, and delivery.
  • Basic knowledge of injected molded polymers such as PP, ABS, PC, PET, PA6, and TPO.
  • Proven experience with handling multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • First-class communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively across multiple sites and time zones.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems using a first-principal physics-based approach.
  • Eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment.
  • Sound commercial and financial awareness.
  • Proficiency in CATIA V5 and Moldflow software.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite.
  • Flexibility to travel to launch and supplier locations for extended periods as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise for all injection mold tooling related topics throughout the Vehicle Hardware Engineering organization.
  • Support injection mold tooling feasibility during the product development process from cradle to grave.
  • Participate and collaborate in all product design development activities to ensure optimal tooling for mass production.
  • Drive tooling best practices by reviewing tool designs with internal and external suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain tooling best practice documents and processes, such as tool design standards and specifications.
  • Maintain tooling open issue lists, progress reports, trip reports, meeting minutes, and presentations as required.
  • Review and guide mold flow best practices and drive process correlation during tool qualification and tryouts.
  • Review tooling estimates and quotations to drive investment efficiencies and align with cross-functional teams.
  • Develop and implement tooling that enables mold in color and sustainable resins and parts.
  • Drive advanced tooling technologies to improve Rivian's competitiveness.
  • Provide problem-solving support and direction to tooling and part suppliers as required.
  • Lead collaborative problem-solving for production plant issues.
  • Capture and document all tooling lessons learned and publish to prevent recurrence.
  • Demonstrate curiosity and high learning agility.
  • Exhibit Rivian Compass values in all activities.
