Job description

The Sr. Test Engineer at Rivian is responsible for executing system-level Powertrain testing as part of the product development process. This role involves collaborating with fellow test engineers to enhance testing methodologies and innovate within the test facility. The engineer will design specialized test stands, integrate instrumentation, and develop automated execution scripts. The position requires a strong background in engineering and a passion for outdoor adventure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive) with a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a relevant testing environment.
  • Experience utilizing CAD software, including Unigraphics and Catia, for prototype-level machining and fabrication applications.
  • Proven experience in powertrain product development engineering within a test lab setting, encompassing validation, development, and/or performance and emissions testing.
  • Strong analytical skills with a proven track record of effectively performing data reduction, in-depth analysis, and generating comprehensive technical reports.
  • Proficiency in utilizing automotive control module development software (e.g., ETAS INCA, Vector CANape/CANalyzer) and configuring network communications to control modules and testbed software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute system-level development and validation testing of electric powertrains and vehicles within a state-of-the-art lab environment.
  • Transform complex test data into clear, concise technical reports, providing insightful analysis.
  • Develop and align with test standards that define data acquisition setups, accessory equipment specifications, and data quality assurance and repeatability protocols.
  • Maximize testing efficiency and data integrity through the strategic application of advanced methodologies, including statistical Design of Experiments (DoE) and the development of automated test scripts.
  • Proactively troubleshoot testing challenges involving powertrain test beds and cutting-edge devices under test, driving towards swift and effective resolutions.
