Job description
As a member of the Rivian Lighting team, you will serve as the technical lead for the development of innovative lighting solutions for Rivian vehicles. Your role will involve collaborating with various teams to ensure that designs meet performance and commercial requirements. You will leverage your expertise in engineering principles to solve complex technical challenges and manage supplier relationships. This position emphasizes fostering a culture of trust and continuous improvement within the company.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, with a Master's degree preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in exterior/interior lamp development at a Tier 1 or OEM.
- Proficiency in CATIA V5/V6, particularly in Part Design and Geometric Surface Design.
- Strong understanding of engineering first principles and the ability to apply them to technical challenges.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong working knowledge of FMVSS, ECE, NCAP, and other automotive evaluation and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop exterior and interior lighting solutions for Rivian vehicles from concept through production.
- Collaborate with Studio Designers, Suppliers, and Manufacturing to achieve design themes and resolve engineering issues.
- Leverage expertise in plastics, injection molding, and optical design to evaluate design trade-offs.
- Lead the development of DFMEAs and ensure dependencies are communicated to cross-functional partners.
- Create product validation plans and coordinate validation activities.
- Manage Tier 1 supplier relationships, including RFQ documentation and technical design reviews.
- Maintain accurate Bill of Materials (BOM) and manage 3D and 2D data with Catia V6.
- Align engineering deliverables with commercial program requirements.
