Job description

The role at Rivian focuses on developing testing processes and designing test equipment for prototype and production lines, specifically for stators, IPM motors, inverters, and drive units. The position is integral to supporting Rivian's mission of creating emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles. The successful candidate will work closely with manufacturing and design engineering teams to ensure testing requirements are met. This position is located in either Plymouth, MI or East Atlanta, GA and reports to a Sr. Manager in Manufacturing Engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in functional testing processes and capital equipment procurement.
  • Experience in automotive and electric motor & inverter systems is preferred.
  • Understanding of inverter electronics and their testing is preferred.
  • Experience with programming, embedded controllers, and communication networks such as CAN and Automotive Ethernet.
  • Hands-on experience in low and high voltage instrumentation and calibration procedures.
  • Geometric and dimensional tolerancing experience is desirable.
  • Experience in low and high-volume production.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Willingness to travel for extended periods, both domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of comprehensive functional testing strategies for drive units and their components.
  • Identify and develop required in-process testing to mitigate process risks.
  • Collaborate with design engineering to ensure testing requirements are met.
  • Perform test data analysis to identify trends and establish predictive strategies.
  • Lead the development of testing technologies for product testing and advanced engineering.
  • Participate in design reviews to ensure manufacturability and test principles are followed.
  • Implement and create flexible testing systems and assist in test equipment purchases.
  • Maintain standard manufacturing and quality documentation for core processes.
  • Ensure manufacturing systems meet high volume, cost, and quality targets.
  • Identify tooling and hardware requirements and implement them into production processes.
  • Evaluate automation opportunities and establish requirements for production lines.
  • Support program launch activities as required.
  • Lead the technical validation and deployment strategy for complex test environments.
