Job description

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Exterior Trim at Rivian, you will lead the design, development, and release of exterior trim systems and components for electric vehicles. This role requires collaboration with various teams to ensure that designs meet cost, mass, quality, and timing targets. You will also mentor junior engineers and drive technical solutions to complex problems. The position emphasizes a commitment to innovative engineering practices and sustainability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, with a Master's preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in automotive exterior systems.
  • Strong proficiency with 3D CAD software for complex plastic parts and assemblies.
  • Demonstrated experience taking components from concept through SOP in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to drive root-cause problem solving and implement robust permanent countermeasures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end design and release of exterior trim parts and assemblies.
  • Apply first-principles mechanical engineering and DFM/DFA best practices for high-volume processes.
  • Deliver exterior trim content to program cost, mass, and tooling targets.
  • Lead resolution of problems and quality issues related to exterior trim.
  • Develop and maintain DVP&R for components and sub-systems.
  • Lead cross-functional discussions to converge on feasible solutions for exterior trim issues.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and designers.
