Job description

The role involves leading the establishment of advanced drive unit design concepts for Rivian's Powertrain Drive Unit team. The candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams and participate in technical integration meetings, focusing on developing design maturity from layout to 3D assembly math. This position requires a strong engineering skillset in powertrain driveline systems and proficiency in CATIA. The candidate will also support design reviews and perform tolerance stack analysis.

Requirements

  • In-depth understanding of EV propulsion system components and subsystems.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience using CATIA, with V6 preferred.
  • Experience using ENOVIA Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of DFM related to Machined Die Castings, Plastic Injection/Molded Parts, Gears/Bearings, and Bolted Joints.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T and its application to part manufacturing and assembly tolerancing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office apps or Google Productivity apps.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead drive unit concept maturity from layout to 3D math.
  • Create parametric 3D mechanical designs for component parts and assemblies.
  • Execute 3D DU and Vehicle Level packaging studies of design concepts.
  • Conduct Pugh Matrix based trade-off studies for DU System Architectural decisions.
  • Collaborate with DREs and cross-functional teams such as CAE and manufacturing engineering.
  • Support and participate in design reviews for DU subsystems.
  • Perform part and assembly 2D/3D tolerance stack analysis.
