This role focuses on designing and delivering large-scale applications and data pipelines that support machine learning and deep learning model training. The engineer will work closely with architects, ML engineers, and data engineers to build reliable software on top of extensive sensor datasets. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the outdoors and a commitment to innovative problem-solving.

Requirements

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field and at least 3 years of relevant experience, or at least 6 years of industry experience without a degree.
  • Strong experience in a backend language like Python, Golang, or Java.
  • Demonstrated experience in full stack application development.
  • Relevant experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and web frameworks, preferably React.
  • Hands-on experience with databases such as MongoDB and Postgres, with NoSQL at scale being a plus.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and structured problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Own backend and RESTful API design and implementation using Go or Python.
  • Build and evolve full-stack web applications using TypeScript and React.
  • Manage data persistence using NoSQL databases like MongoDB.
  • Partner with architects, ML engineers, and data engineers on requirements and design.
  • Deploy services and pipelines using CI/CD pipelines, Git, Kubernetes, and AWS technologies.
  • Optimize cloud infrastructure for cost, performance, and reliability.
  • Uphold quality through testing, code review, and operational practices.
  • Mentor peers and junior engineers on engineering standards and best practices.

Benefits

  • Employees at Rivian are often offered comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) with company match, ESPP and potential RSU grants, performance bonuses, and generous time off including paid parental and sick leave. Perks can include 24/7 mental-health coaching and therapy, Hinge Health for Anthem enrollees, tuition assistance and professional development, plus on-site food and a wide range of employee discounts on items like computers, mobile phones, home loans, and pet care.
