Rivian is seeking a highly motivated Manager of Battery Manufacturing Engineering to lead projects focused on equipment, automation, and process development in battery manufacturing. This role involves managing a team of engineers and ensuring the successful launch and operation of battery module processes. The position is critical for driving efficiency, quality, and scalability as the company redefines sustainable transportation. The role is based in either Normal, IL or Irvine, CA and reports to a Senior Manager in Manufacturing Engineering.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in an automated manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing demands.
- Proven success in planning and project managing the installation of equipment or facilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience in complex electro-mechanical system design.
- Proficiency in 2D & 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD, Solidworks, or Catia.
- Ability to travel both domestically and internationally as required.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of 3-8 Manufacturing Engineers focused on battery module line equipment.
- Ensure successful project execution measured by cost, safety, performance, and delivery schedule.
- Translate complex technical requirements into clear business cases for investment.
- Develop and implement innovative mechanical and controls techniques for battery assembly.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies.
- Evaluate vendor capabilities and provide data-driven sourcing recommendations.
- Provide Design for Manufacturing feedback to optimize assembly processes.
- Solve complex technical problems using engineering principles and data-driven methodologies.
- Lead research and development efforts for new manufacturing technologies.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure successful delivery of engineering solutions.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing engineering standards and best practices.
- Strategically define and drive quarterly goals for the team.
- Plan for future headcount needs to support team growth.
- Coordinate team activities for successful project execution.
- Provide feedback and coaching to team members.
- Mentor and develop engineers, fostering an environment for skill growth.
- Drive a data mindset across the team to base decisions on process performance.
