As a Sr./Staff ML Engineer on Rivian's Perception Team, you will play a vital role in developing and optimizing machine learning algorithms for autonomous vehicles. The position focuses on onboard perception, including object detection and sensor fusion, and requires collaboration with various teams to enhance safety-critical features. You will have ownership over key perception projects and will be responsible for driving the creation of production-ready models. This role is based in Palo Alto, CA, and involves staying updated with advancements in machine learning and computer vision.

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical/Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience for Sr. level, or 7+ years for Staff level, in developing and deploying deep learning models for autonomous vehicles or robotics.
• Expert proficiency with Python and one or more deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Strong C++ skills for performance-critical production code.
• Demonstrated experience in architecting, training, and evaluating perception models.

• Independently own the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of perception ML models.
• Drive the creation and continuous improvement of production-ready perception models for real-time embedded deployment.
• Architect and build scalable data pipelines and training infrastructure for ML model iteration.
• Develop tools and processes to evaluate and measure the performance of perception systems.
• Analyze, debug, and optimize perception system performance from offline metrics to live operation.
• Collaborate with teams across machine learning, sensor systems, and data engineering.
• Share technical direction and mentor junior engineers.
• Stay abreast of state-of-the-art research in machine learning and autonomous driving.
