Job description

The role is part of the Technical Design team for Commercial at Rivian, focusing on the deployment of facilities projects related to the Commercial Portfolio. The Electrical Engineering subject matter expert will lead technical development and building systems while serving as a liaison between internal project teams and external electric utility providers. This position requires a proactive approach to resolving utility-related challenges and streamlining project timelines. The ideal candidate will foster strong relationships with utility companies and ensure project alignment with infrastructure goals.

Requirements

  • Accredited bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, architectural engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience with commercial/retail project design and construction administration.
  • Experience working directly with or for electric utilities in a technical role.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam Revu.
  • Knowledge of EV charging technology and load management is a plus.
  • Willingness to relocate to Atlanta, GA, and work on-site occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the Commercial Electrical Standards and project technical requirements.
  • Drive solutions for design and field issues while collaborating with consulting architects and engineers.
  • Independently develop and communicate design ideas through sketches, markups, and drafting.
  • Identify and forecast long-lead infrastructure requirements and recommend alternative solutions.
  • Lead electrical feasibility reviews of Small works and Remodel projects.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of technical design processes and tools.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key contacts at electric utility companies.
  • Review project-specific electrical designs for consistency with utility company standards.
  • Serve as an escalation pathway for utility design and energization issues.
  • Build cross-functional partnerships to inform site selection with critical inputs.
