The role involves working with the Electric Machine Mechanical Design team at Rivian, focusing on the design and development of electric motor components for their Electric Adventure Vehicles. The position requires collaboration across various teams to support research and development, ensuring the timely completion of design deliverables. Candidates will engage in hands-on experiments and testing, as well as manage suppliers to maintain quality and cost efficiency. Requirements
- 7+ years of experience working in a fast-paced environment on the mechanical design of complex components.
- Formal education in mechanical engineering or a similar discipline; B.S. minimum.
- Proficiency with major 3D CAD software package; CATIA V6 experience preferred.
- Professional experience with applying GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and conducting stack-up analyses.
- Ability to perform structural hand-calculations and FEA studies.
- Knowledge of rapid prototyping, high-volume manufacturing processes, and materials selection.
- Hands-on experience with lab tools and measurement equipment.
- Strong engineering fundamentals in materials, mechanics, dynamics, and design for manufacturability.
Responsibilities
- Design sub-systems and components for electric motors and supporting mechanical structures.
- Utilize CATIA V6 for detailed 3D part generation and 2D drawing layout.
- Conduct stack-up analyses for parts and mating interfaces.
- Author motor component technical specifications, design validation plans, and test plans.
- Manage suppliers with DFMA studies and recurring meetings.
- Troubleshoot and lead root cause analysis studies for quality and manufacturing issues.
- Collaborate with various teams across Rivian to support R&D.
- Design tooling for testing and assembly, ensuring timely completion of project design deliverables.
