Rivian is seeking a Staff AI Engineer to lead the development and scaling of Enterprise Applied AI solutions. This role involves designing and operating production-grade systems in generative AI while collaborating with various internal teams to drive measurable business outcomes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in AI/ML and will be responsible for setting technical direction and improving engineering standards. • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of experience in software engineering for Staff level or 12+ years for Senior Staff level.
• Deep technical knowledge in AI/ML with hands-on experience in language models and evaluation.
• Demonstrated ability to translate ambiguous business problems into AI products with measurable impact.
• Strong familiarity with security, privacy, compliance, and auditability for enterprise AI systems.
• Excellence in communication and stakeholder management.

• Lead the technical design and development of AI applications and platforms.
• Define long-term architecture and engineering standards for Applied AI systems.
• Partner with business sponsors to translate opportunities into roadmaps and products.
• Collaborate with adjacent engineering groups to align AI investments and avoid duplication.
• Drive continuous improvement in AI methodologies and evaluate emerging capabilities.
• Mentor engineers and lead design reviews to improve code quality and reliability.
• Establish evaluation and monitoring practices to ensure quality and safety.
