Job description
As a Sr Mechanical Engineer at Rivian, you will focus on the development of next-generation Power Electronics Modules, overseeing the design of critical components from concept to production. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to tackle complex packaging challenges and ensure the integrity of mechanical components. This role is based in Carson, CA, and reports to the Sr. Mechanical Engineering Manager. Your work will play a key role in advancing Rivian's mission of creating emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline
- 4+ years of engineering experience in the development and packaging of Power Electronics assemblies
- Expert-level proficiency in CATIA V5 or V6 (3DEXPERIENCE)
- Proven track record designing for high-pressure die casting, injection molding, and sheet metal fabrication
- Deep experience in the design of high-voltage busbars and HV/LV wire harnesses
- Practical knowledge of integrating components using various methods such as laser welding and soldering
- High proficiency in GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and experience with DFMEA documents
- Working knowledge of the ENOVIA Product Lifecycle Management environment
- Extensive experience managing external technical suppliers
- Prior experience in the Automotive industry (Tier 1 or OEM)
Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical development of Power Electronics Modules using CATIA V6/3DEXPERIENCE
- Design and engineer a wide array of components including busbars and injection-molded plastics
- Manage the full release cycle of mechanical components using ENOVIA
- Generate and maintain complex Top-Level Assembly Bills of Materials (BOM)
- Drive weekly technical reviews with suppliers to close open design items
- Act as the primary technical liaison for Supply Chain and Supplier Quality teams
- Author critical engineering documents such as Component Technical Specifications and assembly manuals
- Collaborate with the Systems team on DFMEAs and develop Design Verification test plans
- Provide on-site support for pre-production lines, including the design of mechanical test fixtures
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for issues arising during prototype builds
