Job description
Rivian is seeking a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer with expertise in joining applications to enhance system integration and optimization across various platforms. This role involves end-to-end ownership of joining systems, driving design discussions, and leading execution activities. The engineer will collaborate with multiple teams to ensure quality and throughput milestones are met while continuously improving joining processes. The position is based in either Normal, IL or East Atlanta, GA and reports to a manager within the Bodyshop Manufacturing Engineering organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a similar technical field.
- 5+ years of experience in engineering roles.
- 5+ years in process monitoring and optimization of welding and joining processes.
- Deep understanding of joinability of steel and aluminum.
- Extensive experience with at least two joining processes such as spot welding, self-pierce riveting, or automated torquing.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in working within 2D and 3D CAD environments.
- Knowledgeable in high and low volume manufacturing skills.
Responsibilities
- Be responsible for joining systems implementation and process improvement throughout project lifecycles.
- Partner with production operations engineers to ensure successful ramp and long-term production.
- Lead and assist production in all quality and process-related weld topics and issues.
- Implement weld control plans and requirements.
- Perform continuous joining process optimization in existing and future production environments.
- Collaborate with equipment vendors and engineers to develop new joining technologies.
- Evaluate joint designs on both new and existing platforms.
- Communicate findings with design engineering to ensure optimal product manufacturability.
- Provide insights to refine execution guidelines and joining process standards.
- Collaborate with IT and Controls teams to validate data flow from the shop floor.
