Job description

The Robotics Control Engineer will join Amazon Robotics' Motion Planning and Control team, focusing on developing high-performance robotic systems that interact intelligently with humans. This role involves leveraging experience in robotics to create innovative and scalable products, addressing complex challenges in real-world fulfillment environments. The engineer will collaborate with experts in various fields, including motion planning and control theory, to enhance robotic capabilities. The position requires a blend of technical skills and teamwork to drive advancements in robotic control and manipulation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 3+ years of robotics work cells and control systems experience
  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, or Rust
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
  • Experience working with Git or an equivalent distributed version control system
  • Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals including networking, storage, and operating systems
  • Experience building and designing test cases including knowledge of test methodologies
  • Demonstrated experience with IEC standards for programming controls for robotics
  • Solid debugging skills and the ability to diagnose and solve difficult problems
  • Experience in one or more relevant technical areas such as robotics, sensors, or real-time systems

Responsibilities

  • Design, simplify, and continuously improve system controls architecture including machine control code and safety design
  • Develop controls code utilizing structured text on Codesys platforms
  • Identify and implement system optimizations
  • Work closely with hardware and software engineering team members to drive scalable, real-time implementations
  • Partner with hardware engineering team members on developing systems from prototyping to production level
  • Launch, test, and debug systems both in the lab and in the field
  • Develop tools and best practices for system monitoring and troubleshooting, including HMI development
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across hardware, science, and operations teams to iterate on systems design and implementation
  • Contribute to value engineering of the system’s electrical and controls hardware components
  • Travel up to 15% to assist onsite system testing
