Job description

The Network Development Engineer (NDE) role involves creating next-generation network systems and architectures to support operational and IoT technologies across Amazon's global building portfolio. The team focuses on automating networks from diverse vendors to enhance reliability and minimize manual intervention. Working within the Global Real Estate and Facilities Tech team, the NDE will collaborate with IT support teams to ensure network designs are simple and supportable. This position offers the chance to tackle novel challenges and make a significant impact on millions of people.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of automation scripting experience using Python, Bash, Shell, and/or Perl
  • 5+ years of experience with major internet routing protocols
  • 5+ years of experience working in a Linux/Unix environment
  • Experience with AWS and AWS networking products
  • Certification such as CEH, CFR, Cloud+, GICSP, or SSCP
  • Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP routing, and network security architecture
  • Experience with CDK pipelines, SDNs, and Layer 2/3 Segmentation
  • Experience working with OT, ICS, IoT, IIoT, BMS, SCADA, and/or PLCs
  • Experience with Armis, LoRa, STP, BACNet, KNX, Modbus, and serial protocols

Responsibilities

  • Lead large projects to develop, deploy, and maintain a standardized building network schema for Amazon locations.
  • Collaborate with onsite building engineers and develop cloud solutions for monitoring and connecting buildings.
  • Anticipate bottlenecks and influence external vendors and internal team roadmaps.
  • Provide escalation management and make tradeoffs between business needs and technical constraints.
  • Drive high-level strategic initiatives while being hands-on to ensure project completion.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
