Job description

The Failure Analysis Engineer role at Ring involves solving systemic hardware issues and developing tools to prevent future failures. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience with connected, electromechanical devices and debugging issues in production or manufacturing.
  • Experience with project management of technical projects.
  • Adept at electrical characterization techniques for fault isolation and materials characterization.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in Excel and SQL.
  • Experience working with Data & AI related technologies, including AI/ML, GenAI, Analytics, Database, and/or Storage.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and research failures down to the component level to improve product yield, quality, and reliability.
  • Perform in-depth chemical, physical, or electromechanical failure analysis.
  • Conduct PCBA debugging on RMA returns, determine the root cause of failure, analyze failure reports, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with functional teams to understand device issues.
  • Articulate conclusions to the team and advocate for appropriate actions.
  • Develop new diagnostic tools or tests and more efficient failure analysis techniques.
  • Read schematics and layouts and apply failure analysis procedures to identify failure locations and root causes.
  • Write comprehensive failure analysis reports, including charts and photographs.
