Job description

As a Principal Applied Scientist at Microsoft, you will lead the development of AI-powered content recommendation systems for Copilot Discover. Your focus will be on enhancing ranking, user understanding, and content understanding through the use of large language models and multimodal models. You will mentor a team of scientists and collaborate closely with engineering and product management to deliver impactful outcomes. This role emphasizes innovation in AI-driven products while ensuring user engagement and satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years related experience.
  • Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience.
  • Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years related experience.
  • 6+ years of industry experience on applied AI/ML for web scale products.
  • Experience in Software Engineering and familiarity with ML Infrastructure.
  • Having publications at top AI/ML conferences.

Responsibilities

  • Advance the recommendation and ranking stack by architecting and productionizing large-scale DNN/LLM-enhanced recommenders.
  • Deepen user and content understanding by gathering and analyzing user signals to interpret and predict user needs.
  • Scale end-to-end ML/AI systems by collaborating with engineering on data contracts and driving architectural investments.
  • Drive innovation in AI-forward products by collaborating closely with product, science, and engineering teams.
  • Mentor and influence peers through technical leadership and knowledge-sharing.
  • Translate user engagements and behavioral history into model objectives to enhance relevance and engagement.
