Job description

The Mechatronics Systems Engineer at Rivian will be responsible for overseeing the development of vehicle power systems from requirements through production. This role involves collaboration with various engineering teams to define system-level requirements and lead the development of mechatronic systems. The engineer will utilize their expertise in software controls and electronics to ensure robust system integration and testing. A strong focus on innovative problem-solving and adherence to best practices in design and quality documentation is essential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics engineering; Master's preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in automotive systems development or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong background in systems engineering, controls, functional safety, and ISO 26262.
  • A strong understanding of the 1st principles physics of an automotive system.
  • Ability to self-direct and manage issues to closure involving all necessary teams.
  • Knowledge of automotive design and development processes and general engineering best practices.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of integrity.
  • Ability to deliver under pressure and manage component design and development within constraints.
  • Willingness to travel to suppliers, manufacturing, and testing facilities as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead collaborative development of vehicle power systems.
  • Define system level functional requirements from ME, EE, and SW.
  • Support EE and SW architecture design and integration.
  • Lead development of mechatronic systems through system 'V' development.
  • Develop test procedures to simulate vehicle performance.
  • Create component and system design, EOL specifications, and detailed test methods.
  • Utilize model-based design and simulation toolsets for analytical development.
  • Manage system, subsystem, and component part information through PLM.
  • Support component release and systems throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Develop robust algorithms for vehicle systems from a clean sheet.
  • Push technology to lead and define new state of art for system simulations.
  • Develop and maintain best practices and standard quality documents.
  • Instrument vehicles prior to testing and operate data acquisition systems.
  • Benchmark competitive vehicles and refine Rivian's target metrics.
  • Champion 1st principles design methodology across the entire vehicle.
  • Investigate and resolve issues related to design.
