Job description

NVIDIA is seeking a passionate mechanical optical engineer to join the Advanced Technology Group. This role focuses on micro-optical component design for NVIDIA's products, requiring a strong background in precision mechanical components and advanced manufacturing. The engineer will work on complex problems, providing creative solutions that contribute to product differentiation. Collaboration with multi-functional teams and vendors is essential to define optical packaging requirements and ensure product performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related fields or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of mechanical design experience.
  • Knowledge in micro-optic design and optical termination standards.
  • Basic photonic device knowledge.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Background of mechanical simulation software like Ansys or Abacus.
  • Working knowledge of optical simulation software like Lumerical and Zemax.

Responsibilities

  • Define mechanical-optical design rules using simulation software.
  • Discuss with vendors to set DOE plans and data acquisition.
  • Run optical test systems to determine product performance.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and debugging of unique failures.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams within NVIDIA to define optical packaging requirements.

Benefits

  • Employees at NVIDIA are often offered comprehensive, day-one benefits—including medical, dental, and vision coverage with HSA support, life and disability insurance, an Employee Assistance Program, and a 401(k) with auto-enrollment. Many roles also have generous time off and holidays, donation matching (up to $10,000), and a wide menu of extras like FSAs, commuter benefits, legal and identity-theft protection, pet insurance, and wellness discounts. Optional programs can include student-loan and home-purchase support, plus family care resources and expert medical services.
