AWS is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its global data center engineering team, focusing on the design and continuous innovation of data center infrastructure. The role involves collaborating with diverse teams to enhance reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of mechanical systems. Candidates will work on multi-million-dollar designs and support a wide variety of customers while driving change and making a substantial impact. This position can be based in either Seattle, Washington or Herndon, Virginia.
Requirements
- 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission critical facilities such as data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer License.
- Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
Responsibilities
- Work in a cross-disciplinary setting with the ability to influence and drive others.
- Advise peer engineers and the management team.
- Perform deep-dive root cause analysis.
- Make technical trade-offs between short-term project goals and long-term business needs.
- Develop integrated systems extending the life of data center infrastructure products.
- Simplify, optimize, and lower costs of data center mechanical and associated subcomponents.
- Define and design liquid cooling equipment and related infrastructure.
- Collaborate with internal and external ecosystem partners to design and develop new data center product solutions.
- Support field engineering and data center operation teams for performing root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
- Leverage economy of scale through standardization and modularization of data center products.
- Maintain and develop technical design procedures associated with piping and pipe support analysis activities.
- Provide technical subject matter expertise to peers, senior management, and partner teams.
- Develop business justification and narratives to promote new concepts and ideas.
- Lead key initiatives for the organization while demonstrating ownership.
- Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate mechanical and associated subcomponents.
- Provide product design support to other team members.
- Write functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
- Be willing to travel domestically and internationally for up to 25% of the year.
