This individual contributor role focuses on scientific evaluation and external engagement while collaborating with various departments such as R&D, Commercial, Legal, and Business Development. The position does not involve direct people management but requires strong cross-functional influence. The ideal candidate will play a key role in sourcing and assessing external assets to support high-potential opportunities.

Requirements

  • DVM or PhD in a relevant biological or life sciences field
  • 3+ years of experience in animal health research, development, pharma, or a related field
  • Strong ability to evaluate scientific data and external opportunities
  • Experience working cross-functionally and influencing without direct authority
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate external innovation opportunities aligned to strategic priorities
  • Build and manage relationships with external partners including biotech, startups, and academic institutions
  • Lead cross-functional assessments of external assets across R&D, Commercial, Legal, and Business Development
  • Support due diligence activities including scientific evaluation and risk assessment
  • Contribute to internal recommendations and advancement decisions

Benefits

  • Employees at Elanco are often offered competitive compensation with annual bonus and equity eligibility, retirement plans (including a U.S. 401(k)), and comprehensive health coverage—medical, dental, vision, company-paid life and disability—and even pet insurance. Time-off and flexibility typically include generous PTO, U.S. mid-year and year-end paid shutdown weeks, parental leave, and flexible/remote work options. Employees also benefit from strong development programs (onboarding, course libraries, mentorship, nine ERGs, and tiered leadership programs) that support both professional growth and community involvement.
