Job description
The Health Sensing Hardware team is seeking a highly-motivated optical engineer to develop next-generation optical health sensors for the Apple Watch and AirPods. The role involves leveraging expertise in optical system design, modeling, and fabrication to enhance sensor performance. Candidates will analyze user data to identify performance trends and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams. This position requires strong communication skills to convey design assessments to leadership and partners.
Requirements
- PhD in Biomedical or Optical Engineering.
- BS and a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience.
- 5+ years of industry experience in related field.
- Strong optical simulation skills using commercial ray-tracing packages.
- Demonstrated experience with driving sensor development from bench-top to high-volume production.
- Proven experience in designing optical sensors for health sensing applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent documentation skills.
Responsibilities
- Develop the optical design of health sensors through simulations and prototype-based assessments.
- Analyze user studies and sensor performance data to improve understanding of skin-sensor interactions.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers on cross-functional projects.
- Deliver detailed assessments and design evaluations to leadership and cross-functional partners.
- Lead the development of optical sensors from initial design through to production.
